Now, before I start, I'll answer a question some people are/were probably wanting to ask me: "Shadow, what do you think of the new trailer for My Little Pony: Equestria Girls?"
Well, I've watched the whole thing; last night, actually, with
This movie's gonna be awesome. And all current hate towards it is unjustified.
Why do we give that opinion? Let me explain.
For starters, just from actually watching the trailer (read; actually SEEING what it will be like beyond concept art), I can see that Hasbro's actually making an effort to make this good, since the animation's still got the heart that Friendship is Magic has. That, and the crew from FiM is on board with this project, so you know that they won't disappoint.
Secondly, the story; it's not well explained in the trailer, but basically, Twilight must travel to this alternate universe (i.e, our world) to retrieve a crown of sorts that was stolen from the Crystal Empire. So here, she must try and fit in with human society whilst still keeping her goal in mind, and finding her true friends. Because yes. All her other friends (or human versions of them, at least) are in this universe as well. So the story, by MLP standards IMO, is passable. Once I find more details on that bit, maybe I could give a more concrete analysis of it. But for now, it's passable.
Thirdly, the character design. If you've all seen the original concept art for Equestria Girls, then we all can agree that the Humanized Mane 6 were certainly.....eeeeeeeehhhhhh, kinda really bad looking. They didn't look like actual human versions of their Pony forms, since they still had their ears, horns and tails. But seeing them as they are now (sans the multi-colored skins), the designs look MUCH better than they did before. Hell, as my good friend
In general, though, the trailer for Equestria Girls has pretty much quelled any doubts I've had about this movie being good. As I said, Hasbro actually looks to be making an effort with this. And if they can pull it off, it could really be one of the greatest things to ever stem from the Brony community.
HOWEVER, the main thing I've kinda been trying to get across with this journal (and boy, did I take my sweet time getting to this point .___.) is with all the hate being directed towards EG.
Once again, as I covered in the last journal I made covering this matter, why judge something that isn't even fully out yet? And moreso, why make biased opinions and judgments on it simply because you don't like the concept art or trailer? It's silly and completely immature, and all I see from these people is basically:
"Oh, no! Our favorite Ponies are becoming humans now and going to *gasp* HIGH SCHOOL!!!! I mean, it's not like there aren't people who like or even draw pictures and artwork of Ponies as Humans in this community before!!"
Oh, yes. I went there. The ONE major point that I want to sink into all of your brains; not just anyone who likes my work with Ponies, but any Brony/fan of MLP:FiM who's bitching about Equestria Girls in the first place.
I find it completely sad and REALLY ironic/hypocritical that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of artists in the Brony/My Little Pony community who have made any amount of artwork of Ponies as humanized versions of themselves, and people all love it. But then, once Hasbro decides to make a spin-off of Friendship is Magic where THE WHOLE FREAKING PREMISE is Ponies travelling to an alternate universe with human society, all of a sudden, those very same people are quick to change their stature on it all and say that they despise it.
That...is stupid.
Seriously, I was only making a point about it in my last journal talking about it, but now, I'm going to say it again to drive my point home.
If Bronies are going to hate on Equestria Girls because they can't stand Hasbro turning Ponies into actual human girls, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE HUNDREDS--NO, THOUSANDS OF PICTURES IN THIS COMMUNITY OF PONIES AS HUMANS, then they are acting not only childish and immature about it, but extremely hypocritical as well. If you can't stand the fact that Hasbro's making Human Ponies, then you may as well be hating upon any other artist who draws humanized Ponies. And that's a fact.
*sigh*......Good Lord, that was a lot. And on something that just got its first trailer. But I think, hopefully, I've at least made a point. Once again, though, you're all free to disregard this.
Right. I'm going to go continue work on my 10k milestone. Should hopefully be done sometime this week.
Carry on, Bronies and Pegasisters. Carry on..
